An interesting ride through the back hills of southern Vermont yesterday brought us upon "Bessie," the cow. I guess she was making her way up the road after missing the now famous Strolling Of The Heifers Parade in Brattleboro the day before. Seeing a cow walking up the side of the road is still a little strange even in Vermont!
We continued on up rural route 35 until we came to a little corner of the world called Chester. Certainly a quaint little town, or is it a village, where all 10 shops are nestled side by side in an isolated loop street cul de sac in front of the town common. Book store, jewelry store, leather shop, etc... a Vermont kinda mini mall if you will.
I'm not much for cafe's, but this place was a little something different. This was a gift toiletry emporium set inside a general store! Obviously, the flatlanders knew this was the place to stop on their way back to their big city life. The atmosphere was all quaint mosh Vermont,
The Moon Dog Cafe
I'm tellin' ya this place was basically a general store with a little more upscale Vermont touristee nick naks, than I'm use to seeing. In the back hallway the most out-of-tune piano I've ever laid a finger on with an Art shop and a windowed closet shop called the Chocolatarian! Not much, but just enough to tickle your green mountain fancy!
There were no tye dye pychodelic food names on the menu. Just your standard every day run of the mill sandwiches and salads.
A Simple Menu
Nothing at all fancy about this menu.
Plain Jane but effective.

I chose the Roast Beef...I'm not even going to beat around the bush on this one. This was the BEST sandwich I have EVER had in my life, and that's like half a century's worth of eatin'!

I'm not exaggerating one bit about this sandwich! Fantastic! I could only eat half of it and saved the rest for today's lunch.
